IT'S WELL PAST DUE

Now is the time to help me out,
I need a word that leaves no doubt;
A word that means both he and she,
So I can rhyme my poetry.

I'm not a chauvinist by trade,
But only by our language made;
Too oft I have to pick and choose,
And in translation something lose.

Now rhyme and meter do restrict,
When neutral gender I depict;
For when I would such thought portray,
Our language stands right in my way.

So for a classic poet do
Give me a word that means the two;
In Heaven will you find reward,
No poet can such debts afford.
