DOWNSIZING
Tomorrow will much better be,
Each headline proudly does proclaim;
This is the boast of industry,
That nothing will remain the same.
New products reach us every day,
Some surely seem a miracle;
To microchips do they obey,
Our very senses do they lull.
But some will feel much discontent,
As working days for them decline;
For all progress is profit bent,
To downsizing we must resign.
Disruption often changes cause,
Uprooting workers families;
These people do not sound applause,
As poverty begins to squeeze.
Society gives little aid,
To people caught in such cruel fate;
New training often is delayed,
And woes we won't alleviate.
Must progress always bear this price,
Why can't compassion have its say?
We can't produce a Paradise,
But consciences we should obey.
