THE CUP OF JOY

Some day the seas will all dry up.
Some day we'll drink from sorrow's cup.
To all who love, there comes a time,
When all the clocks forget to chime.
This is a lesson all must learn;
That pain will come to each in turn.

The happiness we feel today,
Is one for which we'll have to pay.
The more the joy, the more the span,
Of rapture loaned to mortal man,
The more the sorrow takes its toll,
Upon an aching, grieving soul.

So drink the cup of joy today,
And sing and dance the gloom away.
For what you gain is worth the cost;
Sweet memories are never lost.
So you'll have gained life's great reward,
Ere fate can cut your silver cord.
