ETERNAL THANKS

I've lived a long and happy life,
So do not cry, my lovely wife,
If I should suddenly depart,
And leave behind my loving heart.

I did not choose to go just yet,
But every man must pay this debt.
There comes a time we must go home,
Before we come again to roam.

Now if you read this poem too soon,
I have no plans to leave by noon.
I'm merely writing at this time,
We never know when death will chime.

I want to make it very clear,
That you and all I hold so dear,
Have made a garden of delight
In which I've lived a life so bright.

So many thanks for all you've done.
And give my love to everyone.
I'm grateful for the gifts you gave,
I'm resting well, beyond the grave.
