BLIND JUSTICE

Miscarriages of justice hurt,
When guilty persons are set free;
A judge or jury not alert,
On faulty verdicts will agree.

Some innocents will land in jail,
Despite convincing evidence;
Our safeguards sometimes seem to fail,
Convictions later make no sense.

Though by and large our laws are just,
Imperfect man so oft is found;
Since law and order is a must,
Some verdicts will us all astound.
