THE TEST OF TIME

The sands of time show little trace
Of one's achievements on this Earth;
Some gusts of wind will all erase,
The deeds are lost to Heaven's mirth.

So many heroes lost to dust,
Their valor gone, no souvenir;
With great ideas allowed to rust,
The genius too will disappear.

The mighty battles people win,
In hist'ry books reduced in size;
The strongest steel transformed to tin,
And lost are those we eulogize.

Each generation is so proud,
But few can stand the test of time;
The ages often overcloud,
The feats we thought were so sublime.

Lets take a longer, closer look,
At great events we celebrate;
Our news accounts may be mistook,
Much trivia we overrate.
