WHY A STIGMA

With mental illness people live,
By many it's not understood,
Not much relief can doctors give,
A stigma covers like a hood.

All heart conditions we accept,
And diabetes is no shame;
But mental illness is unwept,
As though somehow they are to blame.

In ancient times 'twas thought a curse,
By God or witch had been induced;
To date we can't this myth reverse,
>From ancient lore we can't be loosed.

As illness treated by doctors all,
So many stages have they named;
To anyone this may befall,
For disrespect we should be shamed.
