THE WEIGHT OF LONELINESS
The music sounds its final note,
The lights are dimmed to end the dance;
Applause oft sounds as if by rote,
And singles may then take a chance.
The pairs depart, no time to lose,
Content in dual happiness;
The singles linger while they choose,
With whom to share their loneliness.
With STDs a constant threat,
The danger may some ones dissuade;
While others pay their social debt,
Although of AIDS they are afraid.
For loneliness, that awful curse,
Does lead to many ugly things;
At times it seems there's nothing worse,
No matter what the morrow brings.
