TRADITION'S ROLE

TRADITION'S ROLE
Tradition's hold is very strong,
It overrides our common sense;
For any deviation's wrong,
Discomfort soon becomes intense.
We bow to ancient ritual,
Though ancient origin is lost;
The process now habitual,
But still these rites we won't exhaust.
Our minds may say this is amiss,
It has no place in life today;
But yet we fear that deep abyss,
If we would change the way we pray.
A social stigma might result,
If other people see you stray,
They might then think you're in some cult,
That something caused your mind to sway.
To change habits that were lifelong,
Is not to be too lightly done;
It takes new dedication strong,
And kin's reaction won't be fun.
Tradition reason can't convert,
For Faith is seen as duty bound;
Since all it will but disconcert,
Your closest friends it may astound.
