A FREAKISH ACCIDENT A chemical response is all It took to start a chain of life; Survival caused a world wide brawl, With never any end to strife. It was a freakish accident, Unique to only planet Earth; There is no room for sentiment, While Faith and Hope bring only mirth. At death the atoms just dissolve, Returning to a global mix; And thus our life forms will revolve, With mankind in an awful fix. What then the role for mortal man, What do we to the future owe? All rules of conduct we should ban, Oblivion we'll never know. Our conscience we should but erase, No Deity should we placate; We'll disappear without a trace, Our pleasures we should consecrate.
